Used exclusively by the JSDF and JCG. The Howa Type 64 was developed in the late 1950s to replace the obsolete weapons being used by the Japanese Self Defense Forces. After prototypes using several different mechanisms, a short stroke, gas operated, tilting bolt design was chosen. The battle rifle used a copy of the US M14 20-round detachable box magazine and was chambered in a reduced-power version of the NATO 7.62x51mm cartridge.
This weapon of the JSDF is capable of effectively engaging most enemies they encounter in the Special Region. The 7.62 mm bullets can easily punch through the armor worn by the Imperial soldiers, but it has proved ineffective against the Flame Dragon. The rifle is also favored by most of the JSDF troops than the its modern version type 89 since the high caliber bullet of the rifle makes it easier to deal with beastly demi-human race with thick skin like Trolls or Ogre.
