Indelma is a type of fish native to the seas of the Special Region. It is known for its side effects rather than its appearance.
Traits
An Indelma is a saltwater fish small enough to be carried by an adult human. It has a strong odor, and while it supposedly tastes good, one should never eat it.
This is because the Indelma shares fat composition similarities with certain Earth fish like oilfish and escolar that make it indigestible. This results in abdominal pain and a severe laxative effect with most humanoids losing complete control of their bowels in as little as thirty minutes.
Plot
Once the Tinayan Deciumverate puts a moratorium on private purchase of slaves to ensure they had rowers for their ships, Edajima Goro finds himself in a difficult situation. He had relied on coersion to rescue the American journalist Edmund Chan, but was told by the slave salesman that regardless of the circumstances, that would no longer be possible. Instead, Tokushima Hajime devises a plan where he would prepare an Indelma as food for the slaves, relying on the Tinayans lack of medical knowledge to reject the entire lot out of misunderstanding about what caused the resulting bowel symptoms and fear of it spreading to the rest of a ship's crew.
On the way to perform this activity, Tokushima brings the Indelma back to the inn managed by Fatima's Gang. This shocks Atya, whose cat-person nose identifies the fish immediately by its scent, so she and Fatima tail the two Japanese spies. Tokushima is successful in his plan, and while Edmund has an awful night, Edajima and Tokushima are able to sneak him out of the slave warehouse under the alias of being doctors.
While no one else notices this action, it is picked up by Oux Do Vi, who chases the trio into a crowd, causing them to miss their escape ship and be surrounded by guards at the end of the pier. This ultimately forces them to sign on to the crew of the Odette, and results in their eventual interaction with Princess Primera Luna Avion.
